Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay provides disadvantaged and disabled people work experience, life skills, and skill training to achieve self-sufficiency in their lives through Work. We do this by focusing our business opportunities on providing training opportunities and by operating financially sound community based businesses that provide vital vocational services to our community.
With Goodwill’s leadership in providing paths to self-sufficiency through work, we will help disadvantaged and disabled people overcome adversity, making the communities we serve stronger.
Goodwill is more than just retail stores and donation centers. We provide vital job training, placement, and support services to community members facing significant barriers to employment. We are also a leading East Bay employer and one of the few businesses creating new jobs by expanding our socially-responsible businesses. In 2014, we served 3,863 individuals and families and directly placed 1,213 individuals into competitive jobs!
Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay, along with Goodwill agencies throughout California, participated in a third-party, independent study conducted by Elliott D. Pollack & Company (IMPLAN) for the second year in a row. This study showed Goodwill state-wide accounted for 2.6 percent of all new job growth in California during 2013 and 5.7 percent of all new jobs in 2012. In California, Goodwill had an overall economic and fiscal impact of $1.2 billion in 2013. In the East Bay, Goodwill helped create and sustain 2,799 jobs
throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano Counties. These jobs resulted in an economic and fiscal impact of nearly $122 million in our local community during 2013 alone, an increase of 22 percent compared to 2012. As we reinvest in growing our work in the East Bay, we anticipate that our operations and services will expand our fiscal and economic impact.
Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay generates approximately $22 million per year, the majority of which supports the paid job training we provide to participants and our community programs. For every dollar we spend, 93 cents goes directly into our programs.
